Authors Note On Mount Oliver, Pa

I had never witnessed the western portion of my state and if I have my way, I never will again. It's pretty, it's an expanse of farms, windmills and trees. Tunnels, lots of tunnels on our ride and I was thrilled. Pittsburgh, the closer you get to it and the further away from Philadelphia you get, is all mountains. Whatever that mountain range is called, I have no idea. I learned from my ride from Philly to Pittsburgh, 5 hours cramped in my mustang, we made the drive and wound up in mountains. My daughter and I had never driven thru an actual mountain before. Cool as fuck if you ask me and that was the highlight of our ride.

Mount Oliver is a quaint small town. It's run down and falling apart in spots. I guess it's urban decay nestled in that mountainside. Mount Oliver is on the outskirts of Pittsburgh, Pa. It winds up and up once you leave the actual city. It is a small place that is the hot spot in Book V, the chapter named Mount Oliver.

Brownsville Road and the McDonald's where the Marines set up their home base for the night the zombie plague swept into the area. Brownsville road, hanging a left out of the McDonald's parking lot curves downward, passing the Sunoco gas station and then it abruptly lands at the church on the right hand side. The church itself, I did not name directly in the chapter. I did however get to ride down this road and I did take a pic of the actual church that I based my storyline on. I parked on the street there briefly. Didn't get out cause I had someplace to be, but my daughter and I ate breakfast at that McDonald's, and like it or not, she had to hear all about Mount Oliver and the zombie infestation of that church.

I did, in fact, take a few pictures.

One day I will work up the nerve to head into Kensington, the badlands in Philly. I will ride the el and take pics and videos for that entry. The Philadelphia incident takes place in book VII chapter 2 named Killadelphia.




I will also drive to Oakland, Maryland, aka Z-Town, featured as well in book VII, I believe chapters 9 and 10. I'm unsure.




As soon as next week I will hit Lancaster area and I will visit Ronks, the site of the Ronk's farm from book VI where Julia procures a young female for Temple and rescues Hayley Bond. Also, there's a farmer's market, Bird-In-Hand farmer's market to be exact, that is featured in book VII and is also the scene of a zombie virus outbreak. I look forward to taking pics of that as well. I will also possibly visit the Main Theater in Ephrata, Pa, another site where zombies took over during a movie showing at night. Again, book VII. Obviously book VII there are a lot of incidents, zombies that need extermination.
